{"id":317,"date":"2013-02-12T19:53:15","date_gmt":"2013-02-12T19:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ahay.org\/blog\/?p=317"},"modified":"2015-09-02T03:40:49","modified_gmt":"2015-09-02T03:40:49","slug":"setting-the-default-to-reproducible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ahay.org\/blog\/2013\/02\/12\/setting-the-default-to-reproducible\/","title":{"rendered":"Setting the default to reproducible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A well-attended workshop <a href=\"http:\/\/icerm.brown.edu\/tw12-5-rcem\">Reproducibility in Computational and Experimental Mathematics<\/a> was hosted by ICERM in Providence, Rhode Island, on December 10-14, 2012, and continued the previous <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/01\/12\/reproducible-research-conferences-in-2011\/\">sequence of workshops and special sessions<\/a> devoted to computational reproducibility. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/ICERM.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>The workshop participants developed a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidhbailey.com\/dhbpapers\/icerm-report.pdf\">set of recommendations<\/a> for changing the culture of computational research in favour of openness and reproducibility.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The main recommendations that emerged from the workshop discussions are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>It is important to promote a culture change that will integrate computational reproducibility into the research process.<\/li>\n<li>Journals, funding agencies, and employers should support this culture change.<\/li>\n<li>Reproducible research practices and the use of appropriate tools should be taught as standard operating procedure in relation to computational aspects of research.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Madagascar <a href=\"\/wiki\/Conferences#Providence_2012_.28ICERM.29\">was presented<\/a> among different tools available to aid in the effort.
