“Madagascar” will be presented at the Scientific Software Day in Austin alongside other software projects. Attendance is free, but registration is required.
An RSF “file” typically consists of 2 parts: the binary file, where data values are stored, and the header file (text), where data attributes are put (see RSF file format page for more details). To prepare such file for distribution, it is recommended to 1) make the binary part architecture independent so that data can be downloaded on heterogeneous computer systems, and 2) pack the binary and header parts. Such result is achieved by using the sfdd program to convert the binary part to XDR format and, at the same time, to pack the two parts. See the example below.

The Advanced installation and Why Madagascar? pages are ready to receive visitors. Helpful corrections and additions are welcome! One of the parts that stand to benefit the most from reader contributions is the Platform-specific installation advice section.
As the number of pages on the Wiki grows, the navbar starts becoming insufficient for proper organization of all documentation. A top-down view of all materials about Madagascar is also useful for determining whether gaps in coverage exist. So I started a Madagascar Manual. Feel welcome to contribute! How nice would it be, and what publicity would bring, calling this manual “Reproducible research and processing with Madagascar” and getting it on SEG Bookmart’s shelf, like SU people did 🙂
